You'll need a few basics to upload videos to the web:

1. A video camera
2. A way to get the video off your camera and on to your computer
3. Editing and/or conversion software

For #1: I would suggest getting a DV camera that records to tape or to memory card. The tape will get you more recording time and are less expensive. The memory card versions will record a limited amount per card. If you don't have multiple cards, you'll need to download the information first before recording more.

For #2: DV commonly connects to computer through iLink, which is essentially Firewire. Your computer may have firewire. It'll either be a small port (on a laptop) that looks like the small end of a USB2, except more square or a port that looks like a USB port, except a bit bigger. Some can connect through USB, but not many cameras do. If you have the video on a card, you can directly copy the video to your hard drive, just like you do with digital pictures.

For #3: There are a ton of video converters out there. I would google "Video Converter software" and pick the best one that has that outputs that you're looking for (mp4, wmv, avi, etc.)
