What can i do if the movie file i am downloading can not fit on the dvd disk?

   well you should compress it google compress movie file basically make the screen smaller it takes way less space

   To back up your own DVD movies, is legal as long as you do keep them for yourself.

   You want to download, and then shrink the file.
   Use DVD Shrink
   on the downloaded file, and then save the result in another folder.
   Then you will back-up the shrunken version to DVD.
